Indo Canadian Trade Mission

July 6, 2007 · Leave a Comment

In June, a delegation of CEOs and senior managers from selected Indian firms visited Halifax and Toronto as part of an Inbound Trade mission organized by the Port of Halifax. I was fortunate to work on that project and get an insight of the relations between the industries of the two nations. This was the first inbound trade mission organized by the Port of Halifax and everyone who participated in the mission wholeheartedly agreed that it was the right first step for the Port as well as concerned companies that visited as part of the delegation.

There was a lot of interest shown by firms in Halifax to meet the delegates and learn a lot more about the indian business environment. The luncheon organized by Greater Halifax Partnership on the topic ‘Doing Business in India’ was well attended and the delegates shared a lot of information that was useful for the attendees whose firms were either already doing business in India or thinking about it.

There is still a lot of work to do as follow up from the trade mission to convert the initial discussions into solid business opportunities.  But Halifax certainly holds a great promise for the Indian firms who are looking to expand their business horizons.  Halifax offers entrance to the North American market for these firms in a small but certain manner. The future is bright for both the countries and I am really excited to be part of both the worlds !

Venkatesh.
